Synopsis

This book attempts to provide clinicians a quick insight into the unique problems we face in our ICUs with respect to bacterial infections. It covers the major bacterial pathogens that we face so rampantly in our ICUs, including the mechanisms of resistance and understanding the microbiological aspects of these infections. The most important gram positive and gram negative pathogens have been covered, with a focus on ICU infections. It will help the reader become familiar with the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, how to detect these in our practice and how to tailor therapy based on this information. The book also throws light on the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic aspects of antimicrobial therapy, an aspect of clinical medicine which is vital.
