Description
This is the sixth edition of a comprehensive manual of common illnesses that a clinician practicing in India would likely encounter, and their treatment. The previous edition was published in 2014.
|
Purpose
This is a most important endeavor, bringing together medicine in a developing country with the advances of modern medicine, and the author has produced an extraordinary work.
|
Audience
The audience is primarily clinicians practicing in India, but it should be emphasized that this book has tremendous value for many physicians worldwide, particularly those engaged in medical missions where the physicians encounter ailments they may not commonly see in their home practices.
|
Features
The book is divided into chapters covering the traditional areas of nutrition, infectious diseases, the cardiovascular system, etc. Each chapter uses a bullet format of related diagnoses and relevant topics. For example, under megaloblastic anaemia, there are definitions, descriptions of causes, boxes of clinical features and investigations, and full-color photographs.
Separate sections cover treatments. The illustrations and radiological images are well presented and intuitive.
|
Assessment
This is a uniquely well-organized, easy-to-read, comprehensive book on commonly encountered medical problems. It is a very worthwhile book for any clinician involved in medical mission work in developing countries, as it is an excellent guide to conditions and diagnoses they may not be familiar with.
