DOODY'S BOOK REVIEW
REVIEWER'S EXPERT OPINION
Barbara M. Egbert, MD (VA Palo Alto Health Care System)
|
Description
atopathological entities, this color atlas includes histopathological photomicrographs and clinical photographs, in addition to outlines, pitfall and diagnostic pearls sections.
|
Purpose
in dermatopathology. This is a worthy objective, and the pitfalls and pearls categories help to make the correct diagnosis.
|
Audience
Practitioners of dermatopathology and general pathology are the intended audience, and residents in these fields could find this helpful. Medical students and physicians in allied fields could use this as a reference. The authors are well-known authorities in the field.
|
Features
The book covers almost the entire spectrum of diseases seen in dermatopathology, including normal histology and inflammatory and neoplastic dermatopathology.
The photomicrographs and clinical photos are outstanding. The pitfalls section and diagnostic pearls sections are helpful. With an atlas, there will be some areas that are not able to be included.
|
Assessment
This is a useful, high-quality dermatopathology atlas. There is competition in this category. Atlas and Synopsis of Lever's Histopathology of the Skin 3rd edition, Elder et al. (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2013), has well done histopathological photomicrographs and clinical photographs as well, but without the pitfalls and pearls sections.
