HV NEMA
ISBN: 9789352704026January 2018444 Pages

Synopsis

The book Gems of Ophthalmology—Retina covers a wide range of retinal diseases. Initial chapters have been devoted to the diagnostic procedures pertaining to the retinal diseases. Ophthalmoscopy, fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, and fundus autofluorescence are helpful in reaching to a correct diagnosis of retinal disorders. Choroidal imaging, with enhanced depth imaging and swept source optical coherence tomography, is a new modality for measuring the thickness of choroid, is being increasingly used in clinical practice.  Diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy and retinal vein occlusions are frequently encountered retinal disorders. The pathomechanism of diabetic macular edema (the most common cause of visual loss in diabetic retinopathy) and central serous chorioretinopathy are critically described. Authors has also discussed the management of age-related macular degeneration including stem cell and gene therapies.  Surgical aspects of retina are also covered in the book. These include surgical management of macular hole, giant retinal tears, rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, and retinal cysts, and advances in microincision vitreoretinal surgery.
