DOODY'S BOOK REVIEW
REVIEWER'S EXPERT OPINION

Mark R Hutchinson, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)

Description

This book efficiently presents the full breadth of rotator cuff injuries covering foundational anatomy and pathophysiology to specific interventions, including cutting-edge concepts in surgical technique debates and the use of platelet rich plasma.

Purpose

ional collection of experts to discuss the full range of rotator cuff disorders. Dr. Maffulli is a trusted, world-renowned expert on tendon injuries such as cuff disease. The contributing authors are an impressive group that provides great perspectives, leaving readers with a great many pearls.

Audience

The book is clearly targeted at orthopedic surgeons and musculoskeletal specialists who care for patients with shoulder problems, especially those with rotator cuff disease. Dr. McFarland provides a wonderful overview of the pros and cons of various components of the physical exam which will be helpful to even our nonsurgical colleagues.

Features

The greatest attribute of this book is its efficiency. Each chapter is focused and concise, allowing readers to get right to the point and move on to the next section. The line drawings are colorful, but probably could be even more real-life in appearance. Admittedly this is probably a personal preference and the images in the book do provide a solid foundation.

Assessment

There are a great many books on shoulder problems and rotator cuff disease. The advantage this one has is its efficient and concise design as well as the wonderful collection of experts from around the world who share their insights.
